Yong Cho, Ph.D.

CEO of the Tree Group/DBT Center of KoreaㅣChief Psychologist

Dr. Cho is the CEO of the Tree Group. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in the State of New York. He graduated from the University of Utah and received his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at the New School for Social Research in New York. Hstarted his clinical training at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York and in 1998, he continued his training at the Zucker Hillside Hospital / Long Island Jewish Medical Center. In 2002, he introduced DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) to Korean speaking immigrants for the first time and opened Asian American Family Clinic at the hospital. His work was featured in the media, such as New York Times, for providing psychological services to multicultural communities.

Since then, Dr. Cho established the Tree group and provided evidence-based treatments, including DBT, PE (Prolonged Exposure) therapy, CBT (Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy). In 2007, he established DBT Center of Korea with the support of its founder, Dr. Marsha Linehan and other experts. In 2008, he invited Dr. Linehan to Korea and opened DBT Workshop for professionals.  

 

Dr. Cho, with his clinical team, has been providing clinical services for clients from both Korean and English-language backgrounds and those with traumas, emotion dysregulation and psychological disorders. In particular, he developed a psycho-educational program for bilingual children and adolescents who suffer from delay in language transfer and neuro-developmental issues. This allowed many children, young adults and parents at international schools and boarding schools across the world to be supported with treatment programs that facilitate language development and academic adjustment.

Songhee Chae, M.A.

VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE TREE GROUP ㅣ PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Ms. Chae, the Vice-President of the Tree Group and a professional psychotherapist, graduated from Ewha Women’s University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and received her master’s degree from the same university. After receiving clinical training from the Tree Group and its affiliated institution, EBTCS (Evidence-Based Treatment Center of Seattle), she completed DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) Intensive training and education at Behavioral Tech. Ms. Chae organized and oversaw the DBT professional workshops hosted by the Tree Group with guest speakers, Dr. Marsha Linehan, the pioneer of the DBT treatmentand Dr. Edna 

Songhee Chae, M.A.

Foa, the pioneer of the PE (Prolonged Exposure) treatment. Ms. Chae organized and oversaw the DBT professional workshops hosted by the Tree Group with guest speakers, Dr. Marsha Linehan, the pioneer of the DBT treatment, and Dr. Edna Foa, the pioneer of the PE (Prolonged Exposure) treatment. She is an expert in DBT and PE treatment and also BT (Behavioral Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) for treating children, adolescents, and adults who experience psychological distressMs. Chae also provides clinical treatment for survivors of sexual violence and clients with trauma, as well as acts a clinical advisor for related institutions and associations.

Seungha Lee, MSc

MANAGER OF DBT CENTER OF KOREA AND THE INTERNATIONAL PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICESㅣPSYCHOTHERAPIST / ACTIVE LEARNING SPECIALIST

Ms. Lee is a psychotherapist and the manager of DBT Center of Korea and International Psychological Services (IPS) at the Tree Group. She graduated from McGill University with a degree in Psychology and received a master’s degree with a Distinction in Child Development from University College London. Her research at University College London focused on Inhibition in Early vs. Late Bilinguals. Ms. Lee also has a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate. 

Seungha Lee, MSc

“The clinicians at the Tree Group value the lives of individuals.”

She provides behavioral therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy for bilingual clients as well as psycho-educational services for bilingual children and adolescents who struggle with language transfer and language acquisition. Especially, Ms. Lee provides clinical services for children and adolescents who suffer from various emotional and developmental issues, including but not limited to anxiety, depressionemotion dysregulation and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).

Seonghae Jeon, M.P.A.

ACTIVE LEARNING CENTER MANAGER ㅣ ACTIVE LEARNING SPECIALIST

Ms. Jeon is an Active Learning Specialist and the manager of the School of Life – Active Learning Center (SOL-ALC) at the Tree Group. She graduated from Binghamton University with a degree in mathematics and received her master’s in Public Administration at the same university. She completed a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate program at the International TEFL Academy and taught English and Korean at the New York YMCA and an Asian Language Academy. Ms. Jeon worked as an education abroad advisor at Binghamton University and a career advisor at a non-profit organization in New York Cityorganizing study abroad

programs for college students and helping Asian immigrants to be financially independent. With Dr. Cho, she is now providing psycho-educational services for bilingual children and adolescents who struggle with language transfer language acquisition, as well as individualized curriculum in math and science based on BA (Behavioral Analysis) and BT (Behavioral Therapy).

Mirin Yang, M.A.

MANAGER OF THE INTERNATIONAL PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES | PSYCHOTHERAPIST / ACTIVE LEARNING SPECIALIST

Ms. Yang is a psychotherapist and the manager of International Psychological Services (IPS) at the Tree Group. She graduated with bachelor’s degrees in Criminology and Psychology from the Royal Holloway University of London and received her master’s degree in Global Criminology at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Ms. Yang, who had a deep interest in adolescents’ behavioral issues,  researched youth awareness of substance abuse at the Royal Holloway University of London and online hate crime at Utrecht University as her master’s thesis.

  

양미린 Mirin Yang, M.A.

She currently conducts BT (Behavioral Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) treatments for children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral difficulties as well as provides clinical treatment for those with ASD through behavioral analysis.

Jungmin Kim, M.A.

ACTIVE LEARNING SPECIALIST

Ms. Kim is an Active Learning Specialist at the Tree Group. She graduated with a double major in Art & Design and History of Art from the University of Michigan and received her Master’s in Art Therapy at New York University. She interned at the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Department at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and the Creative Arts Therapy Department at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital. Ms. Kim is now providing psycho-educational services for bilingual children and adolescents to improve language development and academic ability as well aclinical treatment children and adolescents with ASD to acquire language development and intellectual ability based on behavioral analysis.

Ms. Kim is an Active Learning Specialist at the Tree Group. She graduated with a degree in Psychology and Language Sciences from University College London in the United Kingdom and researched on the topic of Functional Numeracy and Decision Making. She also worked as a Crisis Counselor at Shout UK, and an intern at ASPIERATIONS, a non-profit rehabilitation institution, supporting students with neuro-developmental disorders such as Intellectual Disabilities, ASD and ADHDMs. Kim is now providing psycho-educational services for bilingual children and adolescents to facilitate their language development and successful language transfer.
