How to Start Psycho-educational Assessment
Step 1: Make a Reservation
The following sub-steps should be taken before taking the Comprehensive Psycho-educational Evaluation.
(1) Parent or guardian gives us a call and leaves us with basic information about their child and contact information;
(2) One of our clinicians calls back and explains briefly about the process of the evaluation;
(3) Given that the parent or guardian has had enough time to think and agrees with the psycho-educational services we offer, an evaluation schedule (at least 1 to 2 days are needed to complete the evaluation) is booked.
Step 2: Preliminary Assessment and Administrative Procedures
Upon completing Step 1,
(4) A deposit must be paid in full, so that an online account and chart can be created through which online sessions and messages are securely delivered. Several forms must be submitted online, including personal information, consent form, and questionnaire, and additional documents may be requested, if necessary. Upon completion of these preliminary procedures, an online confirmation message will be sent out, and from this on, almost all administrative-related communications will securely take place on our online platform.
(5) Before conducting the initial diagnostic interview and the Comprehensive Psycho-educational Evaluation, the primary clinician analyzes the child’s personal information and responses to the questionnaire to provide an accurate diagnosis on his or her current psychological state.
Step 3: Initial Diagnostic Interview and Comprehensive Psycho-educational Evaluation
The primary clinician proceeds with both the initial diagnostic interview and the Comprehensive Psychological Evaluation immediately after pre-analyzing the client’s current psychological state. If the client is underage, the clinician meets the child’s parent or guardian first as part of the initial diagnostic interview process. The Comprehensive Psycho-educational Evaluation should be conducted in person; however, if the client resides outside the country or is unable to visit the clinic for various reasons, then it may be proceeded online on the premise that the clinician has decided that the case is not too severe that the evaluation can be done online.
Since 2003, we have observed similar, if not the same, treatment effects from clients whose cases were mild both when our services were delivered online and in person. This observation is consistent with the findings of the American Psychological Association’s research on telepsychology. Additionally, our clients receive our services online without worrying about security issues as we use Microsoft programs that are sensitive to protecting personal information and maintaining security.
The Comprehensive Psycho-educational Evaluation provided to children and adolescents is an essential process to accurately identify their cognitive and intellectual abilities, personalities, and current emotional and psychological states, determine an appropriate psychotherapy to apply and establish a clinical treatment plan accordingly. The bilingual Comprehensive Psycho-educational Evaluation is specifically used to not only assess a child’s cognitive ability and emotional/behavioral/developmental states, but also his or her English language development and learning ability in an English-speaking environment.
This evaluation is an important process to take before establishing an individualized learning plan for a child based on scientific evidence and creating a program that helps treat the child’s psychological, academic, and English acquisition problems in a structured manner.
Step 4: Clinician Feedback after Comprehensive Psycho-educational Evaluation
About a week after the client or child completes the Comprehensive Psycho-educational Evaluation, an hour-long clinician feedback is given to his or her parents or guardians based on the assessment data. If both parents are raising the child, then both are asked to hear the feedback to see their child’s overall state clearly and objectively from the eyes of a clinician.
If the child’s school requests to have the evaluation result sent over, then the same feedback will be provided to the school before we send out the official copy of evaluation report in 4 to 6 weeks. An English copy of psycho-educational evaluation report is required for a child to receive special education in the country of residence or extra hours or adjustments in test settings, such as SAT and ACT.
Step 5: How to Select an Active Learning Psycho-educational Program
The data from the Comprehensive Psycho-educational Evaluation helps clearly reveal a child’s current emotional, psychological and language development states and leads to an accurate diagnosis. The clinician is then able to provide feedback on which psycho-educational program is most suitable for the child. If the parents and guardians agree with the initial treatment goals and plan suggested by the clinician and choose the recommended Active Learning program, then the psycho-education service officially begins.
The child will join any of the following programs: Bridge School of Life; Stream After-School; or Summer/Winter Intensive. These programs are comprised of at least 1 hour of clinical treatment session and anywhere between 6 and 15 hours of psycho-educational sessions that are designed to treat the child’s language or academic difficulties.
After selecting a program, additional information about detailed schedule and administrative steps will be provided by the primary psycho-educational clinician, and all clinical treatment and psycho-educational sessions are officially booked only after a 4-week installment is paid in full (bank transfer only).
Step 6: Active Learning Psycho-educational Program Begins
On the first day of the program, the child, accompanied by his parent(s) or guardian(s), must arrive at the clinic 10 minutes before the first session begins. Should the program be proceeded online, then both the child and his parent or guardian should log in to our online platform and get prepared to meet the clinician 10 minutes prior to the start of the first session.
Parents or guardians must attend the weekly clinical treatment session where they are asked to share with the primary clinician any emotional behavioral treatment progress they have observed at home throughout the week. The primary clinician then shares the treatment goals for the following week with the parents or guardians while simultaneously proceeding with a treatment session with the child.
