The creator of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Marsha M. Linehan, PhD, ABPP is a Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Director Emeritus of the Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics. 

Dr. Linehan devoted her career to clinical research on self-destructive behaviors and suicidal crisis due to emotional dysregulation and has authored or co-authored many publications and books since the 1970s. In the 1990s, she published a research study that showed DBT has led to a significant decrease in chronic suicidal risks among those with the borderline personality disorder and since then, began to encourage major clinical institutions across the United States to implement DBT in their treatment services  
Dr. Linehan’s contributions in the clinical research have been deeply appreciated by the professionals in the field of psychotherapy and received a Gold Medal Award for Life Achievement by the American Psychological Foundation, James McKeen Cattell Award by the Association for Psychological Science, and many more. Particularly, the American Association of Suicidology created Marsha Linehan Award to reward researchers who have made notable contributions in developing strategies to treat suicidal acts.
